Mommy and Me Gratitude Art Journal

Updated: Mar 15, 2020

Hola Mamas! This week's freebie is this fun and simple Mommy and Me Gratitude Art Journaling Kit. You can download it here.

I've designed this kit with busy moms in mind. Being a working mom with school aged kids, I know how hard it can be to find time to reconnect to our kids, let alone find creative ways to do so. I also know that it's so important to connect one on one with them to strengthen our bond and relationship especially now that they are in school.

Art journaling is one of my favorite ways to relax and reconnect with my inner artist so I thought why not use it to reconnect with my kids! Starting an art journal with your kids doesn't take much time or money. You can use any notebook you have even if it's not blank (more on this in future post) and some simple art supplies like crayons and markers.

This free printable art journaling kit is a makes starting one easy!

I decided to focus this kit around cultivating gratitude and self love. What kid doesn't want to look at photos of themselves and reminisce about fun memories! This kit gave us the perfect opportunity to do just that and practice gratitude for the blessings we have in our life.

Before I sat down with my oldest (seen in the photos) to start his art journal, I took some time to print out some of the photos I had on my phone from the previous month. Since it's the end of the month, I decided to make this a month reflection project as well. I asked him about his favorite moments from the month and why he enjoyed them. This is a great time to talk about anything and everything with your little one. I kept it light and just allowed the conversation to go where it needed to. After all, this is all about having fun and enjoying our time together.

In addition, to helping us connect, it's also a great opportunity to brush up on some fine motor skills too! I call this a Mommy & Me Kit because if your kids are young like mine, they might need help with the cutting and gluing their layouts together. My oldest did really well for the most part but I did offer to help him when I saw needed it.

While making the layouts for his art journal, I allowed him to decide what parts of the kit he wanted to use and how he wanted to place them. I also suggested some other ways he could create in his journal like drawing a portrait of himself instead of gluing a photo. Although, he didn't want to and that was totally ok! It's his journal and I wanted him to feel free to use as he pleased.

There is no right or wrong way to use this kit! It's intended as a starting point for inspiration. You can simple fill in then cut and paste the elements into your journal like my oldest did or use them and add your own elements like drawings or journaling.

We were both so happy with how it come out and enjoyed our time together creating!

Adding photos helped us remember some fun memories! Instead of photos you could draw some of your favorite moments too. How would you use this journaling kit?

Thanks for checking out our Mommy and Me Art Journal! I hope you feel inspired make time this week to sit and create with your little one as well. We had so much fun I think we will make this a regular thing! I'm already thinking up more ways to use this journal together.
